Pets

Pets are baby versions of the fish you catch, and they come only from eggs: take an egg to the opener in the Egg House and your new pet pops out, sometimes with an aura. On land your pet floats beside you in a glowing bubble of water, and it begs whenever you hold a fish. At sea it swims alongside your boat, leaping like a dolphin as you go and now and then jumping right over the boat with a trick. To feed it, hold a fish still at its mouth for a moment. Feeding gives your pet experience, never coins, and more valuable fish give more. Pets never get hungry and never lose progress, so feed them whenever you like.

As it gains experience, a pet grows through its stages and gets visibly bigger each time, so a fully grown pet is a sight to show off. Each pet has a perk that helps you while it’s your active pet, and when it first grows up you choose a bonus perk from three. You start with one pet slot for your active pet; two more slots for companions that follow you too open for free at higher captain levels, or earlier at the Egg House’s pet slot stand. Dress your active pet in accessories at the Egg House’s pet stand. Pets are also the one thing captains can trade, at the Trading Post.
