The fishbowl and selling
Every boat in Reel carries a fishbowl. It is where your fish wait until you sell them, feed them to your pet, or hold them up to show your friends.
Where your catch goes
Section titled “Where your catch goes”When you land a fish, it goes into the bowl on the boat you are standing on.
- On your own boat, it goes into your own bowl.
- As a passenger on another captain’s boat, it goes into that captain’s bowl. It is still your fish: it only sits in their bowl, and they can’t sell it, feed it or earn anything from it.
Each captain sees only their own fish in any bowl. Your friend’s bowl looks empty to you unless some of your fish are in it.
Chests, keys, gems, eggs and other things you hook are not fish. They skip the bowl and go straight to your inventory.
A boat that is a pet on land has no bowl. Your fish are still yours; the bowl comes back when the boat is on the water again.
Taking a fish out
Section titled “Taking a fish out”Reach into the glass and grip. The fish nearest your hand comes out and you hold it. While you hold a fish you can:
- show it to other captains, who see it at its real size;
- feed it to your pet by holding it still at your pet’s mouth (see Pets);
- toss it, and it flies back into its bowl with a splash.
When you put a held fish away, it goes back into the bowl too.
Selling
Section titled “Selling”Selling happens at the bowl, wherever your boat is on the water. You don’t have to sail back to the harbor to sell.
- Press SELL ALL on the bowl. It shows how many fish will sell and for how many coins.
- Press it again soon after to sell.
SELL ALL sells all your fish in that bowl, except the ones you have locked as favorites. There is no button to sell a single fish. If you want to keep a fish, open it in your inventory and lock it as a favorite first. A favorite can’t be sold or fed until you unlock it.
You can sell any fish, even your only one of a species. You never lose a discovery by selling: your catch booklet keeps every species you have caught, the sizes and auras you have found, and your largest-ever specimen.
What a fish is worth
Section titled “What a fish is worth”A fish’s value depends on its species, its size, the quality of the catch (how well you played the fight) and any aura it has. Rarer, bigger, glowing fish are worth more.
Each fish also has a ceiling on its sale value, set by the rod you were using when you cast. A stronger rod sets a higher ceiling. The ceiling is fixed at the moment you cast, so upgrading your rod later doesn’t raise the price of fish you already caught. It only limits the coins: the fish’s size, aura and records always stay exactly as caught.
When someone leaves
Section titled “When someone leaves”If you are fishing as a passenger and either you or the boat’s captain leaves the lobby, your fish in their bowl sell automatically for you, and you get a short notice saying how many sold. Favorites aren’t sold: they move back to your own bowl.
