Raised steel blade-scales sweep back along each shoulder of this deep, hump-backed perch, over big jade scales with bright cutting edges. Dark perch bars run down its flanks, its front dorsal is all spikes, and its lower fins flash orange. It patrols the Kelpwood, where diving seabirds point to its hotspots, and it fights with quick sideways dashes.
