Crowns and the store

Reel is free to play. It has two currencies:

  • Coins are earned by playing: selling fish, opening treasure, finishing commissions and more. Coins pay for your rod and boat upgrades.
  • Crowns are the paid currency. You can buy them, and you also earn a few by playing: from the daily streak, some commissions, the Captain’s Pass and boss fights.

Crowns can never be traded between captains.

  • Cosmetics at the harbor’s effect stands: hats, pet accessories, rod colorways, boat looks, wakes and saddle and reins looks.
  • Store boat skins at the Stables. A skin changes only how your boat looks, never how fast it goes or where it can sail.
  • Extra pet slots at the Egg House, so more of your pets can follow you.
  • Rod upgrades at the Rod Workshop’s tree table, as an alternative to paying coins. Boat upgrades are coins only.

Crown prices in the game show only the Crown amount.

Crown packs are bought on the harbor plaza, at the Crown mound: a heap of treasure sand with a chest on top and a wooden plank of red buttons in front of it. There is one button for each pack, with the pack’s Crowns written on the button and its real price on the plank below it.

  1. Press a button once to pick that pack. The chest on the mound sinks into the sand and that pack’s chest rises in its place. The plank under the button says PRESS AGAIN TO BUY.
  2. Press the same button again to buy. Meta’s checkout opens, and you confirm the purchase there.

Once the Crowns arrive, the chest leaps off the mound, lands in front of you and bursts open, and the Crowns fly into you. If you change your mind, just walk away: a pack you picked but didn’t buy is forgotten after a short while.

Every captain sees their own mound, so nobody else sees what you pick or buy.

The starter pack and the Captain’s Pass are bought from the captain’s log menu, not the mound. The starter pack is a one-time pack with Crowns, a captain’s hat and an egg that hatches a pet with an exclusive look. The pass’s premium track is a monthly subscription that renews until you cancel it in your Meta account.

  • Everything takes two steps. At the mound, a first press only picks and a second press buys; on the effect stands and tree tables you press BUY and then CONFIRM. Meta’s own checkout asks once more for anything bought with real money.
  • No pressure timers. Nothing in the store counts down to make you hurry.
  • You see what you get. Crown packs, the starter pack and the pass contain exactly what they say. Wherever something you pay for could lead to a random reward, its odds are shown before you buy.
