Round, black and cooling like fresh lava, the Cinder Puffer is covered in scoria plates split by glowing ember seams. Stubby obsidian knobs with ember tips stand in for spines, and three little volcano vents on its back smoke when it is held out of the water. It is the signature catch of the Cinder Sea, found near warm vents steaming on the surface. Small as it looks, it fights with a heavy, stubborn pull.

How to catch it
Section titled “How to catch it”- Look for steam over the water: they mark a hotspot where Cinder Puffer and its kind bite more often.
- The weather doesn’t change how often it bites.
- When it fights back it mostly dives. Slow your reeling down without stopping, then reel it in while it rests.
