The signature catch of the Sunlit Shallows is a flatfish that vanishes into white sand. Its low oval body is speckled in every sand colour and dotted with bright turquoise peacock rings, a frilly cream-and-turquoise fringe runs all the way round its rim, and both eyes sit up on top on little turrets, each looking its own way. It ripples along with up-and-down body waves, gives itself away only with bubble trails, and fights like an anchor stuck in the sand.

How to catch it
Section titled “How to catch it”- Look for rising bubbles: they mark a hotspot where Sandskipper and its kind bite more often.
- The weather doesn’t change how often it bites.
- When it fights back it mostly dives. Slow your reeling down without stopping, then reel it in while it rests.
