Ponds

Ponds are the only places in Reel where you fish on foot instead of from a boat. There are seven, each on its own island and each with its own theme, from a lily lagoon to an ice-fishing hole, and none of them looks like the sea around it. Walk up to the edge and cast into the water. Every pond has its own mix of fish from its region, and its rarest fish can bite there too.

Your own boat still decides which ponds you can fish: a pond only bites if your boat has the passage for its region, even when another captain sailed you there. Now and then a pond has a short frenzy, with bubbles and sparks in the pond’s colour and fish breaking the surface, and while it lasts you have a better chance of big fish and fish with an aura. Your first catch at each pond gives you Captain XP, and what you catch flies to your own fishbowl.

Lily Lagoon

A still freshwater lagoon on Turtle Sandbar, covered in giant lily pads and pink lotus, with cattails at the back, glowing dragonflies, a frog and a mossy log to sit on. Its fish are Sheltered Bay fish, from minnows and perch up to the Spiked-Shell Turtle.

Mossy Spring

A terraced spring of honey-coloured stone on the Kelp Garden Isles, where two little waterfalls spill into the pool between moss, ferns and wildflowers. It holds Sheltered Bay fish such as the Pebble Goby, Copperfin and Harbor Seahorse.

Anemone Tide Pools

A barnacled rock shelf on Parrotfish Lagoon with little rock pools full of glowing anemones, starfish and crabs, and waves washing in at the back. Its fish come from Coral Reach, including the Crystal Clam, Mantis Striker and Reef Octopus.

Glow Grotto

A pool on Mooncoral Keys tucked under a cliff whose underside glitters with glowing glow-worms, with hanging roots, crystals and glowing mushrooms around the water. It holds Coral Reach fish such as the Mimic Cuttlefish, Reef Moray and the rare Coral Drake.

Crater Hot Spring

A small, steaming crater on Ashfall Caldera, its walls split by glowing lava cracks and crusted with sulphur, with vent chimneys puffing steam and bubbles boiling up through the water. Its fish are fiery Storm & Ember fish like the Emberjaw, Cinder Eel and Magma Scorpionfish.

Obsidian Sinkhole

A funnel of polished black glass on Black Glass Spires, stepping down in rings like seats to a deep, dark shaft, with lightning crackling between two twisted spires above it. It holds Storm & Ember fish, up to the Meteor Sturgeon and the Apex Hammerhead.

Ice Hole

A hole sawn through the ice of a frozen pond on Aurora Shelf, set up for ice fishing with a stool, a bucket, a striped windbreak and a warm lantern on a pole. Its fish come from the Outer Waters, from the Void Koi and Abyss Jelly up to the Crystal Seadragon.
