You can barely tell the signature fish of the Kelpwood from a drifting kelp frond. Its leaf-shaped olive body has a gold midrib stripe and kelp-brown mottling, ruffled kelp-blade fronds sway along its back and belly, leafy flaps hang from its chin and flanks, and three gold floats at the frond roots glow like lanterns in the green gloom. It waits in ambush with an upturned mouth, and the seabirds diving overhead are often the only clue it is there.
