Charcoal-backed and dusted with pale falling ash, the Ash Pike is the colour of a burnt-out fire, with a few live embers still caught on its back. It is a long ambush hunter with a flat duck-bill snout full of needle teeth and smouldering ember-orange eyes. As the signature catch of the Ashen Sea, it waits near warm vents steaming at the surface. Once hooked, it makes long, deep runs.

How to catch it
Section titled “How to catch it”- Look for steam over the water: they mark a hotspot where Ash Pike and its kind bite more often.
- The weather doesn’t change how often it bites.
- When it fights back it mostly dives. Slow your reeling down without stopping, then reel it in while it rests.
