Waters

The sea is divided into named waters, each with its own look and sound: the colour and clearness of the water, the sky above it, what floats on the surface, its wildlife and a landmark you can see from far off. Each water belongs to one region, and where two waters meet the colour shifts across a faint line of foam. A water’s name stays hidden until you first sail into it, and discovering it gives you Captain XP.

Every water has its own home fish, which bite there far more often than anywhere else, along with the odd visitor from the rest of its region. The open sea of a water bites for any boat that can fish its region, but the biggest, rarest fish of a water bite only inside an island’s ring. Fish signs such as diving birds, ripples and fins mark hotspots, and each water has its own event now and then: while it runs, you have a better chance of big fish there.
