Wide, armoured and lined with glowing cyan sense pits, the hammer of this deep-water hunter is plated like a helmet, with electric-blue eyes set right at its tips. Riveted slate plates and a ridge of scutes run down its back to a tall sickle dorsal. Watch for fins cutting the water over the Darkwater Trench, the black depths the Apex Hammerhead calls home. It is one of the region’s legendary catches, and it makes long, deep runs that test any line.

How to catch it
Section titled “How to catch it”- Look for fins cutting the surface: they mark a hotspot where Apex Hammerhead and its kind bite more often.
- The weather doesn’t change how often it bites.
- When it fights back it mostly dives. Slow your reeling down without stopping, then reel it in while it rests.
